After getting the impeller off I cleaned the shaft with the wire wheel to get all the rust off. Putting it all back in was very easy. I took my time and cleaned the dishwasher and the door. Also, put some silicone plumbers grease on the shaft and some of the rubber parts to prevent rust from forming in the future.
Do not use petroleum-based grease as it will ruin the rubber and plastic parts!!! After putting in this kit, no more leaks! We hardly use the dishwasher and this kit saved us from buying a new one. This one is still in good shape even after 20 years. The kit fit and finish is great and it works just like the original. Not knowing a thing about dishwashers, I took it apart studying things and found a small rubber diaphragm that was distorted and thought that must be it. My dishwasher drains normally now.
